New Poll: Employers Get Ready to Compete for Candidates

Employers are eager to stock up on talent as optimism continues to grow, a new Employment Office survey reveals.

An online poll revealed 84 per cent of voters agree now is the right time to up staff in preparation for the market upturn, with only 16 per cent of voters remaining cautious.
According to the recruitment marketing specialist, the results coincide with increased numbers of recruitment campaigns, particularly in the healthcare and community sectors.

Worst is "well behind us": Perth recruiter

The Perth recruitment market is picking up and the worst of the impact of the global financial crisis is over, says Ben Oakley, the director of new mining and engineering firm FMPLUS.

The Perth-based firm was established when Oakley and his partner Max Underhill purchased the assets of their former employer Forrester Manns, which went into liquidation in April.

New Survey: Australian Labour Market Flexes Its Muscles

Manpower’s quarterly Employment Outlook survey shows a strong improvement in hiring intentions for the December quarter.

The survey of more than 2,300 employers showed the net employment outlook jumped 5 percentage points to positive 7%. This was driven by an increase in the proportion of employers planning to increase hiring (18%, up 4pp from the previous quarter) and a fall in the number planning to reduce headcount (9%, down 5pp).

However, hiring intentions are still significantly weaker than a year ago, when the net employment outlook was positive 16%.

A Word from the Wise gives Young Mothers Strength

Employment Office has begun a recruitment first by sourcing an Indigenous Elder to offer young mothers wise words in the township of Cunnamulla.

The Indigenous Elder will be required to visit families and young mothers to offer support and guidance during pregnancy and beyond.

The need for this unique position was identified by the Chief Executive Officer of Cunnamulla Aboriginal Corporation for Health, Ann-Marie Thomas.

The successful solicitor will provide legal services to 22 communities, giving Aboriginal women support, expertise and a voice.

Manager of the Katherine Women’s Information and Legal Service (KWILS), Lesley Niemann, said the candidate will play a vital role in addressing issues that are a result of the Northern Territory Emergency response.

Job seekers have reignited their love affair with casual positions as vacant posts receive an unprecedented wave of applications, Employment Office reports.

More than 1,200 job seekers have applied for thirty casual process work vacancies with the Australian Wool Testing Authority, resulting in tough competition among candidates.

Within 24 hours of being advertised the seasonal process worker roles had received 279 applications, an average of 12 new applications every hour.
