“The Best Job in the World” may have been taken, but the competition continues as chefs gain a second chance to grab their piece of Hamilton Island’s tropical paradise.

Last week, Employment Office launched Hamilton Island Enterprises’ follow up campaign for master chefs to work in the resort’s state of the art kitchens.

The idyllic resort was launched onto the global platform earlier this year following a worldwide search for an island caretaker.

The six-month job offered applicants a $150,000 salary, a three-bedroom villa and the unique opportunity to spend their days snorkeling, feeding the fish, and enticing tourists by writing a blog.

Thirty-five thousand applicants from all over the world applied for the position, which generated unprecedented media attention for Queensland’s Whitsunday Islands.

The global limelight has now created an array of job opportunities for hospitality staff as Hamilton Island prepares for a wave of international visitors eager to see what the Whitsunday Islands have to offer.

Hamilton Island Enterprises employment manager Karl Wood said the campaign had raised awareness for the Island both as a holiday destination and as an employment opportunity.

“All of us that work for Hamilton Island Enterprises have long known about these great opportunities, but now the word is obviously out,” he said.

“We have seen our monthly applications soar from approximately 800 to well over 1200 people applying for roles with us since the campaign was launched”.

Mr Wood said the ideal applicants for the latest chef positions would not only be committed to producing quality food but would also be prepared for a complete lifestyle change.

“Successful candidates must demonstrate the adaptability needed for effective assimilation into island life,” he said.

“We’re looking for people that can enjoy the active outdoor wonderland that abounds in the Great Barrier Reef… Our employees see Hamilton Island as a destination, not a stepping stone”.

The chef campaign will be run by recruitment marketing specialist, Employment Office, a Brisbane-based organisation selected because of their ability to effectively manage and screen a deluge of applications.

Employment Office managing director Tudor Marsden-Huggins said the recruitment campaign was proving to be very popular.

“The latest recruitment drive has been met with a surge of applications from all over Australia, and internationally, from people dedicated to advancing their culinary career in an iconic destination”.

“All the roles offered are full time, permanent roles with an organisation that offers countless opportunities to explore career changes, while providing excellent levels of job security”.
